Focusing on the future of food development
The Department of Food Science and Technology aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through innovation leading to the development of safe and healthy foods. Students will acquire scientific knowledge and techniques related to food creation, such as theories fundamental to food development, food function, and nutrition for human health and safety management based on hygiene and analytical technology. The department offers many cutting-edge lectures, such as “Development of Space Food” and “Future Food Science”, focusing on the future of food.

Enhanced practical learning that is useful to society
The department has enhanced its first-year education offerings in the hope that students will always have a sense of purpose in their studies while maintaining a close relationship with society. For example, “Introduction to Food Science and Technology” and “Career Design I” provide students with opportunities to work on their own projects and present their findings as they discover their career interests. In the second year and beyond, students focus on specific career paths and practical courses in their area of interest. Lectures from experts in the field provide access to practical learning opportunities and new perspectives as students pursue their research goals.

Education for future career paths
The department offers “career design courses” from the first year to the third year. Especially in the third year, a course system is adopted with a strong focus on students’ career paths after graduation. The curriculum and support system focus on connection with society and career development, requiring students to take one of the following courses: “Internship in Food Science and Technology”, “Training Course for Researchers and Engineers”, “Training Course for Food Sanitation Inspectors”, or “Training Course for TOEIC”.

Focus on learning and social connections
The department focuses on education toward food development and innovation. In addition to cutting-edge food processing technology, students can acquire a wealth of knowledge and skills through practical education related to the nutrition, function, taste, and safety of food products, as well as through internships in the workplace. After graduation, students can expect to work in a wide range of food industries, such as food, beverage, and confectionery manufacturing, as well as distribution and retail. By taking specific courses from the third year onward, students will emerge as professionals in the area of food hygiene and food research upon graduation.
