Veterinary nurse training equivalent to international standards
The Department of Veterinary Nursing provides education for students to meet international standards in veterinary nursing education. The expertise and skills gained by veterinary nursing students will ready them for work immediately following graduation. To achieve this aim, the program offers a broad curriculum that prepares students to provide the necessary clinical support to veterinarians, appropriate animal care in different circumstances, disease prevention, rehabilitation, public health, and communication with business owners and staff. Practicums reinforce specific topics, giving students the opportunity to test their knowledge and skills in the practical aspects of the profession.
New department established by the college related to the Department of Veterinary Medicine
Veterinary medicine is essential to veterinary nursing education. The college has a Department of Veterinary Medicine with over 100 years of history and many veterinary faculty members who have high-level educational skills and expertise in veterinary medicine and animal health. By collaborating with the Department of Veterinary Medicine, our department can provide high-quality education on veterinary nursing, especially in terms of clinical aspects. In the clinical setting, students acquire practical knowledge and skills through clinical rotations at the animal hospital (Nihon University ANimal MEdical Center [ANMEC]).
Onsite fully equipped training facilities for lectures and practical training, including an animal hospital (ANMEC)
We provide students with the facilities necessary for practical training and lectures (e.g., ANMEC, Animal Medical Science Research Center, Laboratory Animal Centers, Museum, Ranch, etc.). Especially, ANMEC provides students with valuable opportunities for hands-on training, which is an important part of clinical education. In the ANMEC program, students learn basic veterinary nursing, such as how to handle and care for small animal (dogs and cats), how to communicate with owners, and how to manage veterinary hospital hygiene.
A wide range of careers after graduation, including veterinary nurse at veterinary hospitals and clinics
The Department of Veterinary Nursing offers students extensive education in zoonosis and public health. These curriculums focus on creating healthy environments for both humans and animals. Students will also acquire skills that give them the ability to instruct owners and breeders on proper animal care, an important legal requirement for veterinary nurses. Upon completion of the course work, students can find employment in a wide range of institutions related to the pet animal industry, including veterinary hospitals and clinics.
