A humanities department where students learn about business, culture, and society in relation to biological resources
The Department of Global Coexistence Studies provides education and research on biological resources (animals, plants, microorganisms, etc.) and the surrounding environment, including economics, business, culture, and society. Students learn how to achieve harmonious coexistence between people and biological resources, and among countries that produce and use these resources, through our educational and research activities. Our goal is to provide students with the practical skills necessary to manage biological resources internationally, thus contributing to international exchange and peace.
Experiential learning in Japan and abroad that fosters practical skills
The Department of Global Coexistence Studies focuses on the development of practical skills and provides a curriculum that enables students to gain adequate hands-on experience in the field, such as “Field Courses for Global Coexistence”. With the post-COVID era in mind, we aim to develop human resources who can be active both domestically and internationally, through experiential education that puts the emphasis on understanding different cultures both within and outside of Japan, and disseminating information from Japan to the rest of the world.
Focusing on communication skills and information processing
In the Department of Global Coexistence Studies, students will acquire not only knowledge of a wide range of biological resources but also the basic ability to use non-native languages to communicate with people around the world. Students will also develop knowledge and practical skills in the areas of information and communication technology and data science.
Cultivating human resources who can be active both domestically and globally
The Department of Global Coexistence Studies fosters individuals who have the practical skills to be active, both domestically and globally, in a wide range of global industries, such as trading companies that deal with biological resources, and who are committed to international exchange and cooperation. Our core offerings focus on developing knowledge toward a more sustainable international society by building win–win relationships with domestic and international stakeholders and countries, rather than through one-way contributions, such as providing development assistance to developing countries.
