HISTORY OF THE COLLEGE OF BIORESOURCE SCIENCES

The College of Bioresource Sciences of Nihon University has two origins. In 1937, the Department of Specialized Development Studies was established in the Faculty of Law and Letters of Nihon University, which has its origins in the Nihon Law School founded in 1889 by Akiyoshi Yamada. This department later developed into the Faculty of Agriculture. Meanwhile, the Tokyo Veterinary School, established in 1907, became the new Tokyo University of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science after the war. In 1951, the university merged with Nihon University, and in 1952, the Department of Veterinary Medicine was established in the College of Agriculture of Nihon University and renamed the Nihon University College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. A major reorganization of the college was carried out in 1996 and the name of the college has been changed to the current College of Bioresource Sciences. In 2023, we completely reorganized our college and faculty. Since then, we have established an excellent education and research record based on the three pillars of the producing and utilization sciences for bioresources, life sciences, and environmental sciences, with the purpose of contributing to advancements in our field.
